Balnagowan, ancestral home of the clan Ross
George and I have owned Springer and Cocker Spaniels for the last 45 years. We have always preferred Spaniels over any other breed due to their lively temperament and affectionate manner. After we bought our first Cavalier in 2008 we knew that the Cavalier would be the type of Spaniel that we would want to own and show in our retirement years. Since retiring from the practice of law, we have made this goal a reality. Along the way we have met some remarkable people who share our passion for this wonderful breed.
We are a small home kennel dedicated to breeding quality Cavaliers for the show ring. Our cavaliers are family members and live with us in our home. Our goal is to produce happy, healthy, true to type Cavaliers with their hallmark cheerful dispositions. Our daily lives revolve around our Cavalier Spaniels.
We are members of the National breed club (The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club-USA), and several regional affiliates. We enjoy showing in both the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the specialty club dog shows. Every puppy we breed is dual registered in the CKCSC-USA and the AKC.
How Did We Choose Our Kennel Affix?
During World War II dog breeding was much curtailed. By the end of World War II, there were only six Cavalier Spaniels. These dogs were Ann's Son, his litter brother Wizbang Timothy, Carlo of Ttiweh, Duce of Braemore, Kobba of Kuranda and Aristide of Ttiweh. (Coile, D. Caroline (2008). Cavalier King Charles Spaniels (2nd ed.) page 9 Barron's Educational Series. ISBN 978-0-7641-3771-6.). Following the war, these six ancestral dogs would be the starting block from which all present day Cavaliers descend.
We are descended from the Ross clan of the Scottish Highlands. The township of Braemore is located in Western Ross-shire, the region of the Scottish Highlands that was once owned by the Ross clan. One of the six Cavaliers from which all present day Cavaliers are descended was the Duce of Braemore (Boniface of Braemore X Brocade of Braemore). In recognition of and tribute to these six ancestral founding Cavaliers we selected this Affix as our kennel name.
